Prior to entering academia, I worked as a local TV newscast producer in the Jacksonville, Florida, Houston and Washington, D.C. television markets. My work received many awards including an Emmy, Edward R. Murrow, and two Associated Press awards for “best newscast,” and a national Edward R. Murrow award for “best breaking news coverage.” I’ve also returned to the newsroom several times over semester breaks to keep my skills current and notice changes in the industry which I can incorporate in my classes.
