I frequently organize and appear on academic conference panels on topics related to broadcast journalism and podcasting at events sponsored by AEJMC, BEA and other groups. A partial list is below.

Association of Educators of Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC) Conference: August 2018, Washington, D.C.

  • Panelist, “Podcasts as Audio Accessories to Magazine Media: Bridging Skillsets to Address Emerging Platform Needs” at AEJMC 2018 Conference in Washington, D.C.
  • I was invited to present about ways to incorporate specific podcasting skills into courses that don’t traditionally make use of lessons in broadcasting or audio in a presentation titled, “Assignments Designed to Teach Podcasting Skills.”

Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Convention: April 2019, Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Panelist, “Teaching Storytelling on the Go: Mobile Technology for Student Production Toolboxes” at BEA 2019 Conference in Las Vegas.
  • I was invited to present on my use of LiveU units in the QNN Newscast in a presentation titled, “Going LiveU.”

Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Convention: April 2018, Las Vegas, Nevada

  • I proposed, recruited panelists, moderated and presented on a conference panel titled, “Creating a Course in Podcasting: It’s Easier than you May Think!” at the 2018 BEA Convention in Las Vegas.
  • The panel brought professors together to share curricular ideas and assignments for creating courses in podcasting.

Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Convention: April 2017, Las Vegas, Nevada

  • I proposed, recruited panelists, moderated and presented on a conference panel titled, “The Art of the Podcast: Tips for Teaching Tomorrow’s Media” at the 2017 BEA Convention in Las Vegas.
  • The panel showcased and shared ideas from my podcasting course at Quinnipiac, and others from professors around the country.

Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Convention: April 2017, Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Panelist, “Curriculum Swapshop” at the 2017 BEA Convention in Las Vegas.
  • My presentation, “Using Podcasting to Spark Student Creativity,” was chosen for the panel in a competitive process and was based on assignments I created for my podcasting course at Quinnipiac.

Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Convention: April 2017, Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Panelist, “Classroom to Newsroom 3.0: Making Your Summer “Vacation” Work at School” at the 2017 BEA Convention in Las Vegas
  • My presentation, “New Face in the Newsroom: Fitting In as a Freelancer,” was chosen in a competitive process and was based on my experiences as a summer freelance TV newscast producer at WFSB and WJLA.

“The Video Show” Conference: December 2019, Washington, D.C.

  • Panelist, “MMJ Use: Past, Present and Future” at the 2019 Video Show Conference in Washington, D.C. in December 2019.
  • I was invited to present my research about the use of MMJs in local TV newsrooms, based on my “An MMJ’s Day” article published by the RTDNA (see “Peer Reviewed Articles” section) in a presentation titled, “Using MMJs: Past and Present.”
